Community Submission Policy

Last updated:

This policy applies specifically to mutual aid requests and other community submissions made through the mutualaidspace.org amplification system.

Submit a request: https://mutualaidspace.org/submit

How community submissions work: https://mutualaidspace.org/184446-2/

By submitting material, you agree to this policy and the mutualaidspace.org Terms of Use.

1. What the submission system is for

The submission system exists to amplify mutual aid requests and related organising needs. This may include requests for money, food, housing, healthcare, medication, transport, equipment, volunteers, organisers, participants, practical assistance, or other forms of mutual aid.

The purpose is amplification, not gatekeeping. mutualaidspace.org does not require people to prove that they are sufficiently poor, desperate, respectable, or deserving before they can ask for support.

2. Your submission must contain a clear ask

Submissions must contain enough information to function as an actual appeal. State clearly what you need, what you are asking people to support or do, and any information readers need in order to act on the request.

If you are recruiting volunteers, organisers, facilitators, participants, or other people, explain what you are recruiting them for and what action interested people should take.

Do not rely on an image, title, unexplained link, external context, or automated form instructions to communicate the purpose of your submission. Readers should not have to reverse-engineer what the amplification system is being asked to amplify.

3. What happens when you submit

By submitting material, you are asking mutualaidspace.org to publish and amplify the information you provide. This may include your chosen name or alias, description of the request, crowdfunding links, payment handles, images, deadlines, organising information, original social-media links, and other information included in the form.

Submitted material may become a public page on mutualaidspace.org and may be federated through ActivityPub, circulated through project or community accounts, associated with hashtags, indexed by search engines, included in feeds, newsletters or roundups, and redistributed by other people.

Only submit information you are comfortable making public.

Submitting material gives mutualaidspace.org permission to reproduce, format, display, federate, index, excerpt, link to, and redistribute that material for the purpose of amplification. Ownership of the submitted material remains with its owner.

4. @comrade@mutualaidspace.org

Community submissions may be published and federated through @comrade@mutualaidspace.org; @comrade@mutualaidspace.org is a community submissions co-account used to circulate mutual aid requests under Comrades & Community and related categories.

The submitted request belongs to the submitter. Replies, arguments, moderation decisions, commentary, blocks, account administration, and other activity independently made through the @comrade@mutualaidspace.org account come from the account administrator, not from unrelated people whose requests happen to be published through that account.

Publishing somebody’s submission through @comrade@mutualaidspace.org does not make that person responsible for, or imply that they endorse, everything else the account says or does.

5. Administrator formatting and functionality edits

The administrator may manually edit a submitted or published post where necessary to make information already supplied by the submitter display clearly or function correctly, as long as the edit does not materially change the meaning, message, purpose, or substance of the request.

This may include correcting or formatting crowdfunding links, making payment handles readable or clickable, fixing malformed URLs where the intended destination is clear, removing accidental form instructions or placeholder text, correcting display problems, arranging information already supplied by the submitter, and adding categorisation or hashtags used by the amplification system.

The administrator will not invent a missing ask, add factual claims on the submitter’s behalf, materially rewrite the request, or change what the submitter is asking people to support.

These administrator-side corrections do not create an edit-request service for submitters.

6. Seven-day publication period

Community submissions remain published for seven days (one week) from the date of publication. After seven days, the submission is automatically removed.

If you still need amplification after the seven-day period ends, submit a new request through https://mutualaidspace.org/submit

There is no edit request process after publication. If information needs to be materially changed, you may request manual removal of the existing submission and submit a new request.

7. Manual removal by the administrator

A submission may be manually removed by the administrator before the seven-day automatic removal period ends where it does not adequately function as an appeal, appears inconsistent with the intended use of the amplification system, or otherwise violates this policy.

This may include submissions that:

  • are substantially incomplete;
  • contain too little information for readers to understand the ask;
  • consist mainly of an image, title, or link without sufficient explanation;
  • do not identify what readers are being asked to do or support;
  • leave form instructions, example text, or placeholders in the published submission;
  • make the purpose of the request unreasonably difficult to determine;
  • provide too little information to determine what the amplification system is being used to amplify;
  • repeatedly use the submission system without producing meaningful, understandable appeals;
  • impersonate another person;
  • contain malicious, deceptive, phishing, or malware links;
  • publish another person’s sensitive private information without consent;
  • contain harassment, threats, or material creating a serious technical or security risk;
  • use the amplification system for a purpose materially different from or inconsistent with the request presented to readers.

Manual removal does not necessarily mean that the underlying cause, organiser, campaign, or request is ineligible for mutual aid amplification. It means the submitted post itself did not meet the requirements for publication through this system.

8. Requesting removal

If you want your own submission removed before the seven-day publication period ends, you may request manual removal by the administrator.

There is no corresponding process for requesting edits, additions, or revisions to a published submission.

When requesting removal, include the URL of the relevant mutualaidspace.org page wherever possible.

9. Resubmission

If a submission is automatically removed after seven days and you still need amplification, submit it again through https://mutualaidspace.org/submit

If a submission was manually removed because it was unclear, incomplete, or otherwise did not meet this policy, you may submit a clearer and more complete request through the same form.

A resubmission is a new submission. It does not restore or edit the previous post.

10. Administrative email

The email address requested by the submission form may be used for administrative communications related to the submitted post, including automatic or manual removal notifications. It is not intended to become part of the public request unless you separately choose to publish it.

Providing an administrative email address does not give mutualaidspace.org permission to add it to unrelated mailing lists or use it as general promotional consent.

11. Questions about a submission or removal

Before contacting the administrator, review:

If your submission was removed because the ask was unclear or incomplete, submit a clearer version through https://mutualaidspace.org/submit

If the policy, submission form, and information above do not address your queries, the final contact option is to email admin@mutualaidspace.org about them.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the submission, publication, federation, moderation, removal, resubmission, or administrator-handling process materially changes. The current version will display its latest revision date.
